HEALTH ECONOMIC ANALYSIS TO SUPPORT THE TAX INCREASE ON SWEETENED BEVERAGES (SSBs) AND UNHEALTHY FOOD PACKAGES (UFs) IN CAMEROON
LoRDA Research Center carried out the following under the patronage of RADA:
Health Economic Analyses:
- Fiscal impact analysis (FIA),
- Analysis on the potentials of the tax to increase the Fiscal Space for Public Health
- Cost-benefit analysis (CBA),
- Cost utility analysis (CUA),
- Social cost-benefit analysis (SCBA) of the tax increase,
- Elasticity analysis,
- Demand for healthier food options.
- Economic impact analysis of increasing the demand for healthier substitutes
Advocacy activities/presentations:
- Media
- CSOs
- Members of Parliament (MPs)
The advocacy strengthened the capacity of the Media, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Members of Parliament in order to have them understand the facts and reasons behind discouraging the consumption of sugar sweetened beverages and unhealthy packaged foods. These advocacy activities were geared to win their support and get them fully engaged in pushing for a tax increase on unhealthy sugar sweetened beverages and packaged foods in Cameroon.
